The Hendrix Experience

Updated: Jun 13, 2023

What do we collect? Objects we can trade, or, gifts that give us meaning & connection.

Or is it both?

Two lives

There is something about art that, when it takes a form of an object, digital or otherwise, cannot be easily explained.

Art has at least two lives. In its normal boring life, it's an object. You can measure its size, colour and frequency spectrum. It has an ownership history. It can fit into “a category“, and like most objects, it can be traded.

The other life art lives, is as a gift; to society, to culture, to a tribe, group, or an individual.

Intangible and priceless, once it's free to roam in the ether it is impossible to measure, predict, or stop its impact.

So what do we collect?

Objects we can trade, or, gifts that give us meaning and connection.

Is it both?

Eyes Open

In January 2021, after a week where decades happen, I decided to collect Hashmask #13255. It was my first interation with a large NFT collection. On one hand there are thousands of Hashmasks, but on the other, there's only one #13255. I decided to explore what it feels like to connect with a piece of digital art.

First I decided to name him: Hendrix.

Then, I made music for my Hendrix.

Then I created two art pieces that feature my Hendrix.

The full story is here,

The TLDR is for you to experience yourself. All I will say is that #cryptoreneissance has started already, and art is how it happens.
